Quiet Times
On occasion, I am blown away by the energy, content and style of someone's personal website. This amazing site was designed by a San Francisco graphic designer/writer and employs a mixture of prose and visuals to convey a whim or a thought.
Quiet-foxes is the name of the magazine and Quiet-time is the graphic design company. Web designers: be sure to check out the various icons, backgrounds and banners on display.

Photo Journalism
Darko Bandic is a freelance photographer whose compelling online portfolio contains images from his recent trips abroad. The site offers a diverse range of photos including desperate refugees in Kosovo, uneasy American uniformed soldiers in Bosnia and millennial fireworks launched over the Egyptian pyramids of Giza.
This site raises visual storytelling to new heights. With easily displayed pop-up windows, visitors can enjoy this thoughtful site without multimedia requirements.

The Best Medicine
If you believe that laughter is the best medicine, this next site will help cure whatever ails you.
Comedy World is shooting to be a nexus point for broadcasting original comedy 24/7. Offering live radio broadcasts with hosts ranging from Sandra Bernhard to Ken Ober (remember Remote Control?) as well as streaming video, animation and some cool games, this site is a must visit if you need to unwind.
Be sure to check out the animated "Action 7 News" clips as well as the "Truth in Advertising" segment in the movies section.

SHORT TAKES:
The Cliche Site will get you hook line and sinker with it's no-brainer content. Organized alphabetically or by category, it provides amusing definitions for those all too familiar phrases we hear day in and day out.
After visiting this site, coming up with a good cliche will be like shooting a fish in a barrel.

Amusing Dogs
The Institute of Official Cheer has created yet another site that will bring a smile to your face. Dateline Kennel is a collection of cute and comic photos of man's best friend from the 50's and 60's. Be sure to check out Future Dog, a time traveling scottish terrier complete with cape and a mock time machine.

The Study of Dreams
Mankind has always attached great importance to dreams, though theories of their source and significance have changed tremendously over the centuries. The Ancients believed that dreams were god-sent and were a means to predict the future and devise cures for the ill. Modern theories stress that they are extensions of the waking state.
The Association for the Study of Dreams site is dedicated to the investigation of dreams and dreaming. Its purpose is to promote an awareness of and to encourage research into the nature, function, and significance of dreaming.

The Vanishing Tattoo
Since the beginning of recorded time, humans have practiced indelible body art. Tattoos can be, a mark of royalty, a symbol of religious devotion, a decoration for bravery, a pledge of love, or the mark of outcasts and convicts.
Vanishing Tattoo is the creation of Tom Lockhart, owner of the oldest continually operating tattoo studio in Canada. The site contains photo galleries, images of ancient tribal designs, an itinerary of Tom's quest to find the last authentic tribal tattoo and much more.

Stock Market for Sports
If you've had your fill of stock market gyrations for one year, (who hasn't?) you may find tracking the ups and downs of the sport's trading card market, less taxing.
The Pit is the first sports card exchange complete with ticker and all. You can finally put all those "useless" stats to use, because on-the-field performances largely determine the card values. Prices change daily and sometimes, drastically.
The site offers live, real time pricing, historical graphs, breaking news, portfolio balances and analyst content.

Make Mine Wine
If you're looking for some guidance in selecting the appropriate beer, wine or spirits to match your lifestyle and pocketbook, you'll want to bookmark Tastings.com. The site contains has over 500 pages and databases containing more than 30,000 reviews and links to more than 3,000 resources and suppliers.

The Acceleration of Everything
Time: we waste it, lose it, kill it, budget and organize it, move from "real" to "virtual" and seem totally obsessed with saving it.
This fascinating website features the work of James Gleick, the acclaimed author of "The Acceleration of Just About Everything", and will have you consider your own role in accepting the acceleration of modern life.

You could labor ten years under a master
Trying to discern whether the teachings are true.
But all you might learn is this:
One must live one's own life.
