'The Simpsons', which premiered on television over ten years ago, demonstrated that cartoons can be as entertaining to adults as they are to children. Shows such as "Futurama", "King of the Hill", "Daria" and many others have recruited a significant following of "grown-up" viewers. Emma is the subject of 'Weird Emma', an online cartoon that is as bizarre as it is hilarious. With a cast of talking animals (including her dog who speaks with an Irish accent), the episodes are only about a minute long, but what they lack in length they make up for in content and originality. Great Castles of Wales Medieval history buffs especially will enjoy this trip to the Great Castles of Wales, a tribute to some of the world's purest examples of fortified medieval architecture, found in a country that counts more than 400 of them. The site offers an alphabetical listing of 18 different castles, with histories of the most important castles and detailed floor plans, aerial views and photos of all, showing the draw bridges, defenses, towers and gates, and then mapping each one. Related links lead visitors to still more sites about Wales and medieval history. http://www.anzwers.org/free/castlewales/ Postal Experiments The United States Postal Service (USPS) is known for its amazingly reliable service, especially when compared with many other countries worldwide. In order to confirm this, this site sent a team of investigators to test the delivery limits of this immense system. Their experiments included mailing a wide range of items including currencies, sentimental items (a rose, a molar tooth), unwieldy items (skis, helium balloons), and pointless items (a coconut, a brick and a smelly bag of kitty litter). Their conclusion: We all really owe a debt of gratitude to these civil servants. http://www.improbable.com/airchives/paperair/volume6/v6i4/postal-6-4.html SHORT
TAKES No, I Know Where Bruce Lee Lives is not the web site of a stalker, but an interactive "Kung-fu remixer," where users tap a keyboard sporting 37 keys assigned to different kung-fu moves, record the loop and play it back - then corral your friends into watching your own personal Bruce Lee action sequence. http://www.skop.com/brucelee/brucelee.htm <><><><> The Miniature Earth Boil down the earth's entire population into a small group of 100 and world issues are brought into startling clarity. At The Miniature Earth, a Flash presentation bares the facts - like that you are among 8% of people worldwide who owns a computer, and are a whole lot luckier than the one billion others who can't even read. http://www.thesustainablevillage.com/miniature_earth/ <><><><> Worst Country Song Titles Ever hear a country song that makes you want to hit your head against something hard? Chances are its here, on the list of worst country song titles. More than 100 titles are listed, like "I Gave Her the Ring, and She Gave Me the Finger." The site creator, clearly a masochist, invites visitors to submit their own painful discoveries. http://www.downstream.sk.ca/country.htm Enjoy

The Frank & Fritzy Show Part "Seinfeld," and part "The Sopranos," the Frank & Fritzy Show is an authentic series of conversations captured from wiretaps recorded by the FBI between 1985 and 1986. The Feds listened in on the home phone of Federico "Fritzy" Giovanelli, a Genovese crime family soldier, hoping to hear Fritzy discussing mob business with other New York wiseguys. Instead, they captured the daily chatter of two old pals, Fritzy and Frank "Frankie California" Condo, a fellow Genovese soldier, who called each other religiously every afternoon to talk about sex, movies, cholesterol counts, and marital strife. A new episode of The Frank & Fritzy Show airs every Wednesday, and each is funny, profane, sweet and quite remarkable. Requiring Real Player, the tapes were uncovered by The Smoking Gun, a web site that brings exclusive, confidential documents to the Web from material obtained via Freedom of Information requests. Baseball Primer The sport of baseball is known as a 'National Pastime', a glorious game that has come to symbolize our culture and its' intrinsic passion for healthy competition. It has endured depressions and wars, strikes and controversies, all the while building larger-than-life heroes that inspire our children with dreams of home runs and ninth-inning comebacks. With the inception of BaseballPrimer.com, our great sport has finally found a suitable home on the Web. Baseball fans will find everything they've ever dreamed of, including intelligent articles on the sport, extensive stats, predictions, scouting reports and so much more. Don't miss the Transaction Oracle, a spiritual guide into the reasons behind a player's trade, dismissal or success. There is a lot to uncover at this site, so true fans should grab some peanuts and crackerjacks and get ready for extra innings. Parking Lot Videos (Some Adult Content) Back in 1986, Jeff Krulik took a video camera to the parking lot of a Judas Priest concert. The resultant movie, Heavy Metal Parking Lot, became an instant cult classic. Containing mostly interviews with the fans, it struck a cord with underground film enthusiasts quickly spread across the country by word of mouth. Universal recently purchased the film as research for their upcoming film Metal God, which has now turned many eyes to Krulik and his outlandish work. Planet Krulik contains all of Krulik's movies, which include everything from a drive with Ernest Borgnine on his bus "The Sunburn", to a concert video of one of the most acclaimed Elvis impersonators, Michael Hoover. Be sure to keep an eye out for his latest project, the "Harry Potter Parking Lot." http://www.planetkrulik.com/index2.htm

The "coolest of the cool" among lost-and-found cultural objects, turntables have made a comeback recently, and musicologists almost drool over the sound of a needle sliding around a vinyl disk. At Ode to a Turntable, Technics has created a memorial to the cherished deck as part of its 30th anniversary celebration. You need Shockwave and Flash 5 for full enjoyment, but it's well worth it to tour this labor of love from the techies who created the site. It's also a soft advertisement for the company's history in audio production, but you figure they deserve the credit once you cruise through Legacy, an audiovisual history of 30 years of turntable production and The Deck Story, taking visitors right down inside the engineering. Extraterrestrial Real Estate If you're thinking about retiring but can't afford to stake your claim in some beautiful, exotic locale, you may want to consider an exciting alternative...The Moon. In 1980, a gentleman by the name of Dennis Hope managed to acquire, through some ingenious legal loophole, rights to the lunar surface and the surfaces of all other planets in our solar system (with the notable exception of Earth). Welcome to the Lunar Embassy, the first and only company in the world that is legally licensed to sell 'extraterrestrial real estate'. The site, despite its sense of humor, is quite legitimate, has thousands of 'landowners', and has been recognized by television and Internet media organizations. Visitors will learn about the legal nature of their purchase, the company's immediate plans for lunar development, and will be given the opportunity to purchase acres of land on the Moon, Venus, Mars, and IO, one of Jupiter's many moons. If all that doesn't convince you, then the prices will (One lunar acre goes for about $15.99 US). SUBSCRIBERS' SITES - Many of our subscribers have fascinating on-line projects.
