Trek Earth

The Internet is the perfect meeting place for artists who are interested in presenting work to their peers. Trek Earth serves as a global community in which photographers share important and engaging images with one another. Its primary goal is to foster an environment where people can learn about the many diverse regions of the earth through photography.

What separates Trek Earth from so many other photography sites is that any work posted on the site is subject to critique by the many members of its community. There is a fairly extensive 'rating system' which not only allows people to rate specific images, but offer suggestions on how a photograph might be improved upon.

Behind The Name

The one word we are guaranteed to hear everyday for the rest of our lives is our own first name. As children we quickly forge a deep relationship with our name since it is used to identify, alert, describe, tease as well as compliment us.
But just what is in a name?

This is a great web site to learn more about your lifelong personal 'title'. Stocked with the etymological origins of over 11,000 given names in languages ranging from African to Yiddish, Behindthename.com is the Internet's best source for getting a quick, literal answer to that age old question 'Who Am I?'

The Society To Prevent My Employment

Only in America and only on the Internet could you find someone like Princess Natalie, the self-appointed Queen of Unemployment. Natalie has decided that the best way to avoid the slings and arrows of the daily grind is to set up her own 'Society' and collect donations from people who actually do work!

All the contributions (we're guessing there aren't too many) go toward maintaining Nathalie's luxurious, work-free lifestyle. Read through her tongue-in-cheek reasons for being worthy of such donations.

The Legacy of Phyllis Wattis

A tribute to the vision of Phyllis Wattis, this site is also a showcase for the artwork that is now part of the permanent collection at SFMOMA because of her generosity. After enjoying the beautiful intro, visitors can watch a video clip of Mrs. Wattis in which she discusses the museum and its most recent additions.

The ten new pieces include work by modern greats including Warhol, Rauschenberg and Mondrian. Click on each painting to get a closer look and to read commentary from the artists themselves. Especially enjoyable is 'The Wit and Wisdom of Andy Warhol' located just next to his 1962 painting 'Red Liz'.

Amiright?

With its slogan 'Making fun of music, one song at a time...' this site is an invaluable resource for anyone who loves to sing along. It is a hilarious web site where shower singers and ipod buffs from all over the world can finally decipher the lyrics of their favorite songs.

With an archive of thousands of 'misheard lyrics', you will no longer have to mumble through the mysterious words of your favorite Beatles track (It's a Hard Days Night, I Should Be Sleeping Like a Log' - not a Dog). The site also has a wealth of amusing offerings including songs that have been sung incorrectly in films and song parodies from the last few decades.

The Tripatorium

The Tripatorium is an outpost on the web devoted to all things psychedelic, the LSD of web sites if you will. The site's main gallery features the work of a great variety of psychedelic sculptors, painters, writers and musicians.

Fans of the Tripatorium can purchase affordable signed collector's editions of most of the artwork displayed on the site. Check out the very trippy section entitled 'Eye Candy' where you can watch an amazing series of psychedelic visual experiences.

What's That Bug?

WTB, or 'What's That Bug', is exactly what it sounds like; a web site that answers pretty much any question about bugs. Whether mildly curious about bugs or totally paranoid about what you just spotted on the front porch, the site allows visitors to submit a photo and/or query about the nature of any insects that may fly, crawl or jump through their lives.

Search the index to learn the difference between a whip scorpion and a generic scorpion, read some of the surprisingly interesting 'bug biographies', or visit the 'buggy gift shop'. Also, do not miss the 'worst bug story ever', located at the very bottom of the main index.

Quantum Muse

The Quantum Muse publishes a monthly online newsletter, edited by hilarious, beer swilling sci-fi junkies and filled with well-written articles, fiction and artwork from the science fiction/fantasy genre. The site is writer friendly, and is happy to receive submissions of personal work as well as honest literary criticism from its visitors.

Visitors to The Muse can browse through selected writings from esteemed sci-fi authors, look at fantasy inspired artwork, or take a trip on the Quantum Web Ring which links related sites. Be sure to read the political editorials by the site's two editors, who never seem to run out of ways to make you laugh while making their point.

Be still and know yourself as the Truth you have been searching for.
Be still and let the inherent joy of that Truth capture your
drama and destroy it in the bliss of consummation.
Be still and let your life be lived by the purpose you were made for.
Be still and receive the inherent truth of your heart.
