Terra Fly

TerraFly gives new meaning to the term 'bird's eye view', allowing you to 'fly' online over almost any part of the United States. Sponsored by NASA and the National Science Foundation, this free service gives visitors an amazing perspective from which to view their planet.

Simply enter in any street address and Terrafly will take you on an airborne journey over your destination. The service has proven to be a valuable tool in the travel, real estate, insurance and education industries as well as in government services. The TerraFly software uses footage up to seven years old, so while you might find your favorite childhood restaurant just as you remember it, it may actually now be a
sushi restaurant or a Starbucks!

Mugshots.com

This site lives up to its name with a regularly updated database of unique criminal mugshots from all over the country. The unflattering photographs are broken up into related categories and accompanied by a quick, often humorous synopsis written by the site's editors.

Browse through such interesting categories as 'Fashion', 'Music', 'Model Search' and 'Sport' (for some reason athletes seem to find themselves in this precarious position more than other celebrities). Be sure to check out the 'Favorites' section for the hysterically 'arresting' stories of unsuccessful criminals.

Paul Neave

This is a great personal site created by a very intelligent, very funny individual named Paul Neave. Paul uses the site as a forum for his 'rants', the targets of which include everything from the new Matrix film to Itunes.

In addition to his many rants, Paul also has an Inspirational section that includes links to great sites and a Photography section with images of graffiti, architecture and nature taken by the man himself. Don't skip the Neave Lab, the self-titled 'mad professor playground' that contains Paul's many cool flash blogs.

D.R.U.M.

Wannabee drummers will have a blast putting their virtual sticks to use on Drumline. This online user matrix is a 'play area' that allows you to create and loop your own original drum 'rolls'.

Wake the neighborhood with a combination of single stroke rolls, multiple bounces and double stroke open rolls while reliving the glory days of your high-school garage band. The site even allows you to save your slamming compositions as 'Sheet Music' to play at a later date.

Japan at Night

Check out photography Japanese style with this collection of nighttime panoramic images. 'Night Views of Seto' is a virtual map with over twenty-five moving nocturnal views covering the Western part of Japan.

The image quality on the site is so high that if you turn out the lights in your room it will feel as if you are actually sitting in the hills of Osaka overlooking the city. The website is regularly updated with new, terrific images for visitors to enjoy.

1UP

Perhaps the ultimate online gaming site, 1UP boasts previews, reviews, news, tips, cheats and any other info one could possibly need on the world of video games. The website is easy to navigate and covers a wide range of games, just click on the console of your choice (PS2, Xbox, GameCube, PC, Pocket and Classic).

1UP definitely has the low down on pretty much every great game past and present, as well as previews of upcoming hits. It's also worth exploring the 'Features' section, which is chock full of cool articles and interviews including a one-on-one with Steve Ranck, co-founder of Swingin' Ape.

Machinima Film Festival 2003

Machinima, or Machine Animation, is a relatively new method of creating animated film that combines the art of puppetry, live performance and animation through the medium of 'video game engines'. These engines are primarily found in 'first-person' games such as 'Doom', 'Quake' and the recently publicized 'Matrix: 4x1'.

The Machinima Film Festival, now in its third year, is a celebration of this low-budget but highly creative filmmaking technique that has become increasingly popular since the mid 1990's. The site offers an extensive introduction into the world of Machinima, as well as a look at the thirty participants of this year's festival, which was recently hosted by the American Museum of the Moving Image in New York City.

Louis Jordan

Music fans will love this official website dedicated to the life and work of Louis Jordan. The site pays due tribute to 'The Father of the Rhythm and Blues', the man who paved the way for legends such as Bo Diddley, B.B. King and Chuck Berry.

There is something for everyone here, just use the website's music guide which is split into two sections, the 'Casual Listener' and the 'Obsessive Collector'. In addition to complete song lyrics, discography and plenty of albums available for purchase, fans can browse the site's many features which include a Time Line, Photo Gallery and information on the Louis Jordan Tribute Fund.
