Metrosexual Tarot

"Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" collides with the occult a Metrosexual Tarot, where a flip of the tarot card reveals your metrosexual present, future and fate in or out of the closet. Flip The Salon card, for example, your personal chariot through the ever-changing landscape of personal style, impeccable grooming, and attitude renewal where you are encouraged to stock up on obscure, impossible-to-pronounce European styling products.

Each Tarot card carries a meaning, like renewal, beauty and attention; and has a reverse fortune, like "Vanity brings a problem." The Ab card declares that you have become an extension of your closet. Cards include the City, the Loft, the Stylist and more, each with meaning and wisdom for today's metrosexual, typically an urban male with a strong aesthetic sense who spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle.

Confessions of a Car Salesman

Edmunds.com blows the lid off the car lot with Confessions of a Car Salesman, where visitors learn what goes on in the back rooms of car dealerships, what that salesman does when he leaves you sitting in a sales office to go talk with his boss, the sales tricks used to increase profit, and how to avoid overpaying. Edmunds hired an investigative reporter to go underground and get first-hand experience living the life of a car salesman.

Journalist Chandler Phillips worked at two new car dealerships in the Los Angeles area, first at a high-volume, high-pressure dealership selling Japanese cars, then at a smaller car lot selling domestic cars at "no haggle" prices. Here he tells all in an account of his day-to-day experiences. Visitors also get buying and selling tips for new and used cars.

The Micropolitan Museum

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and to behold this artwork has required a microscope, until the Institute for the Promotion of the Less than One Millimeter's Micropolitan Museum, displaying the artistry of microorganisms.

The Micropolitan Museum's curator Wim van Egmond has collected the finest microscopic masterpieces nature has produced during eons of natural selection and other life-sculpting mechanisms: microscopic art forms in two categories, freshwater and marine. What looks like filthy pond scum becomes breathtakingly beautiful under the microscope as you admire the flagella, cilia and arthropoda. Visit the Diatom Depot, the Hall of Anthropods and other micro-galleries. Learn how the images were gathered and about the amazing technology of microscopy that makes seeing the micro-tiny possible.

The NitPicker's Guide to Lord of the Rings

For a lengthy list of deviations between the text of The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien and the translation of those texts to film by Peter Jackson, and others, like Jackson's failure to mention that it was both Bilbo and Frodo's birthday party--Bilbo's 111th and Frodo's 33rd, visit The NitPicker's Guide to Lord of the Rings.

Celluloid Skyline

Every New Yorker has his or her own tales of the city, and knows that the Big Apple is not a single city, certainly not just the one seen in films like 42nd Street, Rear Window, Annie Hall, Taxi Driver or Do the Right Thing. Based on the award-winning book by architect James Sanders, the Celluloid Skyline is a multimedia exploration of the mythic city of "movie New York," and the real city of millions, with lessons about the design and use of cities.

Visions of the Dream City is an interactive feature with innovative ways to explore the shape of the urban landscape, using reference photographs taken by Hollywood crews in the 20th century. Building the Dream City offers a gallery of rare and unusual production drawings of movie New York from the RKO art department. Sidewalk Glimpses offers an interactive database with links to early "actuality" films, shot on the streets of New York City from 1896 to 1906, downloadable from Library of Congress Paper Print Collection.

Super Seventies

If you missed the 70s the first time around, the Super Seventies RockSite brings back the Me Decade, aged like a mighty fine wine. The site creators call the 70s "the overall finest decade for popular music in the past forty years" and offer as proof such features as the Classic 200, album reviews, top singles and music forums.

Beyond Black Sabbath, Aerosmith and Pink Floyd, the site also features 70s culture, with 170 portraits of famous personalities as they appeared in Time, TV Guide and Rolling Stone, plus trivia games, a bookstore (remember "Looking for Mr. Goodbar" and "The Thornbirds"?) and a poster room with gems from Donny and Marie to Kiss.
