Barcelona Perfume Museum

Perhaps the most pleasantly smelling museum in all the world, El Museo Del Perfume houses over 5,000 bottles, jars and vessels that once held the sacred perfumes and oils of ancient cultures. With a collection of artifacts that spans from the Etruscans and Egyptians all the way up to the modern perfume industry, the museum offers a unique look (or smell!) at the history of human civilization through these extremely beautiful objects.

The museum displays its collection chronologically, including samples from Ancient Greece, Rome, and Islam as well as flasks from Post-Industrial Revolution 'Perfumeries', which form the foundation for today's popular perfume and cologne brands. The luxurious nature of these items is evident in their high-level of craftsmanship, which will appeal to lovers of history and art alike.

Strindberg + Helium

Developed by Erin Bradley and James Bewley, 'Strindberg and helium' uses a unique visual style that inspires the mood of a 19th century salon. The emotional contrast between the eternally brooding poet 'Strindberg' and the eternally optimistic balloon 'helium' makes this one of the best new animation series around.

With only four episodes under their belt and so much acclaim for this cult hit, we expect the creators will soon be releasing a handful of new 'Strindberg and helium' installments soon. Dialogue from the original cartoons is taken directly from the work of Swedish-playwright Joseph Strindberg.

Buddha Portal

Technology and Religion exist in peaceful union at this beautiful website. BuddhaNet is a 'non-sectarian meeting place' for Buddhists of all kind, a valuable online resource for the growing international community of people committed to following the principles, teachings and lifestyle of Buddhism.

There are so many wonderful features on the site, and you don't need to be a devout practitioner to sense and enjoy the great energy that abounds here. There is a flash 'Zen' comic strip, current book reviews, and instructional guides to learning the art of meditation. BuddhaNet is a peaceful island where web surfers can stop, breathe, and find a little peace in today's hectic online world.

Rock and Roll Bad Boy

Amateur music journalist and full time music enthusiast Brett Meisner has an unparalleled passion for Rock n' Roll. This homemade site is a self-tribute to a man who has truly thrown his arms around and his life into the wide world of Rock music.

Some of the funnier features on Brett's site are his commentary on pictures of Rock-Stars in the 'Photo Album', 'The Hard Truth' which lists many of Brett's personal insights into the cruel evolution of rock n' roll, and 'About Brett', an autobiography of the self-styled 'Rock n' Roll Bad Boy' himself.

Pigments Through the Ages

This fascinating web exhibit is a must-see for artists and art-lovers. It takes an insightful look into the world of 'pigments', which are the substance within all paintings and painted objects. The 'substance within the color', pigments can be composed of materials as rudimentary as egg yolk, oil, and fat, or as complex as the highly engineered plastics one often finds on automobiles.

The exhibit traces the history of man's creation of pigments from the carbon black used in pre-historic cave paintings all the way to the synthetic iron oxide found in many modern materials. Visitors will enjoy the sections dedicated to individual colors (Purple, Red, Green, etc.), which explore the spiritual symbolism, cultural interpretations, and alchemical power of the nine essential colors.

Song Fight!

Get ready to rumble!! Song Fight is the type of eccentric phenomenon only possible because of the amazing capabilities of the Internet. The process begins when SongFight posts a fictitious 'song title' on the site, combatants then compose songs specifically for that title. Then the battle begins…

Visitors can listen to all the song entries posted for each weeks 'fight', then vote on their favorites. It's easy to get into the melee with a little help from composing resources such as HomeRecording.com, HitSquad, and Leon's Random.

Technovelgy: Where Science Meets Fiction

If you take a good look around, you'll notice that modern technology is catching up to the seemingly clairvoyant works of Science Fiction authors such as Philip K. Dick, Douglas Adams and William Gibson. Sci-fi fans will get a kick out of this site that lists the growing number of frontier technologies first glimpsed on the pages of futuristic novels now available in 'real life'.

Read about the Sci-fi origins of everything from nanotechnology to sub-dermal implants, as well as many fantasized inventions that have not yet been realized. Entries are catalogued alphabetically or by author, with a separate area where visitors can browse by categories such as 'computers' and 'artificial intelligence'. The editors of the website to a fantastic job with each item, including text from the original story and current information on the technology.

Pathetic Geek Stories

Self-proclaimed 'geek' Maria Schneider has created a hysterical yet heart-wrenching comic strip based on the trials and tribulations of the socially challenged and generally unfortunate. In addition to the homegrown feel of the strip, what is so cool about this comic is that its content is founded upon real-life stories and experiences that Maria's many friends and fans choose to share with her.

Scrolling through the archives of 'Painful Geek Stories' will make you laugh and cringe. The stories are generally funny and light-hearted yet the reader can't help but be embarrassed for these pour souls and the social humiliations they have suffered!
