Newsmap

To watch 'the news' is to observe a chaotic stream of rapidly moving information, all of which is generated from a complicated network of international resources. What most of us see of journalism is just the ever-changing face of the world's 'Current Events', but what would we find if we could take a deeper look into the mental workings of the media?

Newsmap lets us watch the patterns and pathways through which information travels as it makes its way from its source to newspapers, televisions and websites all over the world? Using a 'treemap visualization algorithm', the Newsmap application is able to visually demonstrate the relationship between data and its hidden patterns in news media. Visitors can track up-to-the-minute news stories as they adapt, often with bias, and travel across countries, cultures and media formats.

Badbossology.com

The only thing worse than having a bad job is having a bad boss to go with it. According to a recent Gallup survey, over 40% of employees have to deal with a superior that they consider to be a 'bad boss'. In addition to causing a great deal of unhappiness and stress in the workplace, unhealthy employer-employee relationships can often decrease productivity and profitability in businesses.

Instead of taking the predictable 'Us vs. Them' attitude, this website offers itself as a positive and strategic resource to help protect companies and employees from suffering at the hands of domineering bosses. Visitors can learn tips on how to improve their personal work environment, choose from a selection of great books on the topic, and even post their work-related dilemmas in discussion forums to get practical advice.

100 Movies That Deserve More Love

Originally written for Movie Insider Magazine, this master list is now part of the archives of the very cool movie review site CHUD. The '100 Movies That Deserve More Love' is a great source of cult classics, underrated blockbusters and other screen gems that somehow fell beneath the radar of popular film culture.

You'll find everything from visionary films like 'Contact' and 'Gattaca' to more obscure releases such as 'Equilibrium' with Christian Bale (2002). Our favorite on the list is definitely #21, 'The Iron Giant', easily one of the most enjoyable and heartbreaking animation flicks of all time.

Cult of Mac

If you spend most of your time with an Ipod in your ear, or can often be found in a café enjoying free Wi-Fi on your Ibook, this Wired newsletter is a must. Riding Through Chernobyl

This is a surprisingly insightful homemade website created by a passionate motorcyclist. She also happens to be the daughter of a Russian nuclear physicist who has been working near the Chernobyl site for the last 18 years, and her site provides a startlingly unique perspective on the worst nuclear catastrophe in our history.

Her motorcycle ride from Kiev through the radioactive 'dead zones' of Chernobyl, complete with detailed photos and passionate descriptions, is a haunting documentation of the history of the meltdown, the politics behind the incident, and its devastating impact on the surrounding areas.

Adventures of Seinfeld & Superman

Fans of the television show Seinfeld are familiar with the comedian's love for the comic book hero Superman. With the help of American Express, these two showbiz legends have teamed up to create a unique, 4-minute Internet 'Webisode' co-written by Jerry Seinfeld and directed by Barry Levinson.

The episode, which is entitled 'A Uniform Used To Mean Something', chronicles a day in the life of this new dynamic duo. View the original clip here, as well as another installment called 'Hindsight' and some other cool features including a 'Behind-the-Scenes' look into the making of the project. Of course, the site also suggests you sign up for an American Express card….

The President Calling

This is the website behind the compelling American RadioWorks documentary 'The President Calling'. U.S. Presidents John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon and Lyndon B. Johnson, for individual reasons, all chose to secretly bug their own telephone conversations, the recordings of which offer listeners one of the most exciting 'fly on the wall' opportunities in political history.

Visitors can listen or read transcripts of the actual Oval Office recordings from each of the three presidents. Highlights include insights into the Vietnam crisis during Johnson's term, Kennedy's ability to charm and persuade, and of course the Watergate scandal of the Nixon administration. Don't miss this one!!

Kurt Cobain Murder Investigation

Nirvana fans, conspiracy theory junkies and curious visitors will all be interested in what Tom Grant has to say about the 1994 suicide of legendary singer Kurt Cobain. After all, Mr. Grant was the private investigator hired by Cobain's wife, Courtney Love, just seven days prior to her husband's suicide. He has a lot to say on the events surrounding his death.

Ironically, Tom has spent the last ten years as an outspoken voice claiming that the Nirvana front man did not commit suicide but was actually killed by his wife and another male conspirator. The website includes a slew of information including a complete summary of events, Kurt's alleged suicide note, as well as a review and commentary on the recent film 'Kurt and Courtney'.

InvadeCanada.US

Canada has long been applauded for its strong environmental policies, low crime rate, and National Health Care system not to mention many other attributes against which the United States pales in comparison. But one thing we've definitely got that Canada doesn't is a large and powerful military.

In the hilarious spirit made popular in 'South Park; The Movie', this site proposes a satirical plan to invade our friendly neighbors to the North. The editors predict that we will easily defeat Canada's main military force (a group of rabid beavers) and reunite Alaska with the U.S., thus finally including the long neglected state as part of the 'Continental United States. Canadians and Americans who get the joke can show their support by purchasing 'Invade Canada' t-shirts and other gear.
