While the landscape may have changed over the years, the idea of seeing our beautiful country from the seat of your car has remained an essential pastime of the American experience. From the long gone Model T Ford's to the newly popular Hybrid vehicles, we have been seeking the freedom and adventure of a road trip for almost a century. "Driving Vacations Through the Ages" tracks the evolution of "The Great American Road Trip", from the cars in which we've cruised to the musical soundtracks of our journeys. The timeline is divided up by decade and includes a video presentation that recaptures the popular roads and destinations that defined each time period in American travel. http://www.msnbc.com/modules/summer_driving/decades/frame.asp?speed=hi Calories Per Hour It seems as if you can't open a newspaper or turn on the news these days without seeing a story about the epidemic of obesity facing the United States. This is a wonderfully useful, down-to-earth website that dispels many of the myths and fads about diet and weight-loss currently being marketed in the United States. CaloriesPerHour.com has a simple, scientific approach to dieting that is a great companion to walk people through the process of weight-loss and weight management. Complete with a Calorie Counter Calculator, Body Mass Index, Food and Calorie Nutrition Index and Weight Loss Tutorial, the site is a pragmatic resource in an otherwise convoluted industry. http://www.caloriesperhour.com/ Lost On Mulholland Drive Fans of David Lynch and particularly his latest masterpiece "Mulholland Drive" should bookmark this site. Born out of an overflowing discussion group on the popular movie review website RottenTomatoes.com, the site aims to create an organized forum where fans can post opinion, interpretations and reviews that attempt to unravel the mysteries of Lynch's instant cult classic. In addition to the open fan forum, "Lost On Mulholland Drive" offers itself as an unpretentious introduction to this mysterious work of cinematic art. Neophytes can read a detailed guide to the film's characters, locations, symbolic interpretations, and basic plot development so that they are more 'prepared' for their second viewing of Lynch's most recent and compelling tale. http://www.mulholland-drive.net/home.htm
Slice: Pizza Weblogs Lovers of "New York-Style" pizza eat only at the Slice Pizza Club, lesser fans of deep dish and Dominoes are not welcome. Pizza-philes will enjoy this weblog devoted to the specific thin-crust style of pizza identified with the Big Apple.
Every great magazine must begin with a memorable first issue (who can forget the "George" magazine cover of Cindy Crawford dressed as George Washington). Scroll through this private collection of "Premiere Issues", filled with over a hundred covers from the coolest fashion and street culture magazines around. http://www.pixelyn.net/projects/01issue/collection.html
Why are there 150 life-sized, fiberglass mules stretching across 165 miles of road between Delaware and Pennsylvania? The answer is a cool Public Arts project called Miles of Mules that is showcasing the artwork and social messages of local artists, schools and non-profit organizations on each individual donkey. Hee-Haw!! http://www.milesofmules.org/home.html Enjoy

John James Audubon, after whom the famous society is named after, spent most of his adult life studying and compiling information on the many bird species native to America. His work culminated in the stunning "Birds of America", a publication of 435 engraved plates that show life-size etchings of each species. This
beautiful work, depicting a variety of native birds such as the Peregrine
Falcon, Wild Turkey, Purple Finch and Water Pipet, is now available for
online viewing. Search for a particular bird in the Index, and be sure
to enjoy the section entitled "Harmony", which is a beautiful

This much needed website helps "we the people" hold politicians accountable for what they say in their campaign ads, political speeches, press releases, interviews and debates. FactCheck.org, supported by The Annenberg Political Fact Check, is an unbiased, non-profit consumer advocate group that aims to reduce the deception that is plaguing U.S. Politics. The site monitors current political headlines and responds with educational articles that help us determine which politicians are telling the truth and which ones are misleading the public. Fact Check lives by the words of Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts." Amen!! History of Sanitary Sewers The concrete roots of our sanitary sewers date back over 5,500 years. John Schladweiler of the Arizona Water & Pollution Control Association has spent a decade researching the history and evolution of these remarkable systems that thankfully carry our waste far away from us. This is a great site for engineers, history buffs and anyone fascinated by more obscure areas of urban culture. The site has a wealth of articles, images, sketches, graphics and photos about this particularly "underground" aspect of modern civilization. Don't miss the pictures of an alligator and a snake found recently by a utility construction company doing work in Orlando, Florida. **********Advertisement**************

The Mint Museum of Craft and Design, located in North Carolina, is part of the Penland School of Crafts. Celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, the museum is hosting a six-month exhibition entitled "The Nature of Craft and the Penland Experience", which traces the history of 'object-making' as it has evolved over the past one hundred years. The exhibit is divided into three categories: History, Stories and Objects. Each section has historic images and video clips that illustrate the Penland School's deep relationship with the development of arts and crafts in America, as well as its growth as a historic community founded upon the love of creating and building things. http://mintmuseum.org/penland/ Transportation Futuristics The dreamers of the past meet the possibilities of the future at this online exhibition of Transportation Futuristics. The cool virtual galleries on the site contain visionary designs in the field of transportation engineering that failed because at the time of their creation they were not sufficiently supported by economics and/or technology. Visitors
will get a kick out of the quirky inventions within the different galleries.
There are unrealized vehicles of the land, sea and sky, as well as failed
social applications such as an article on the 'commuter helicopter', amphibious
recreational vehicles and personal flying http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/news_events/exhibits/futuristics/ SUBSCRIBERS' SITES - Many of our subscribers have fascinating on-line projects.
