Chiloe Stories

Located over a thousand kilometers away from Chile's capital city of Santiago, Chilo is a distant archipelago rich in history and mythology. The Paperback Revolution

While today it may seem like a just another affordable modern staple, seventy years ago the 'paperback' book hit the literary scene and forever changed the publishing industry. When Penguin Books published its first paperback in 1935, it sparked a revolution in the marketing, distribution and circulation of books, as well as the reading habits of America.

This site explores this 'democratisation' of books, as the paperback blurred the lines between what was considered to be 'High' and 'Low' literature. Visitors will enjoy a slew of cool features on the site about this 'revolution', including an animated timeline of the paperback, a gallery of book images ranging from the classics to the pulps, as well as related links.

Graveyard of the Pacific

The miles of coastline stretching across the Pacific side of Vancouver Island have long been known in the nautical community as some of the deadliest in the world. This treacherous area also known as The Graveyard of the Pacific, is an oceanic cemetery to the literally thousands of vessels, from large warships and passenger ferries to lumber barges and small tugs, that have crashed and sunk along its rocky coast.

Despite its morbid leanings, this Virtual Museum of Canada website is a lot of fun, and also provides insight into an interesting niche of nautical history. There is an interactive timeline, a section dedicated to real-life tales of hope and courage in the face of tragedy, and even an online newspaper called the Shipwreck Times that uses historical data, old interviews, journal entries and official records to 're-write' articles about famous shipwrecks.

Forgotten Ohio

In addition to being the crucial 'Swing State' of this past presidential election, Ohio also has a deep history and is host to a wide array of fascinating sites. "Forgotten Ohio" explores the darker side of this diverse state.

From its 'Creepy Cemeteries' to its 'Old Ghost Towns' to its abandoned industrial areas, Ohio is chock full of scary places. The site is regularly updated with photos and stories of the editor's scary adventures into the forgotten corners and haunted mansions of Ohio.
