The Cool Tricks and Trinkets Newsletter #33

Greetings,

Recently I downloaded a program called AceReader, which enables reading on your computer in "Center Text Mode". In this format, words are rapidly flashed before you in a large yellow font against a black background. After a little getting used to, I have more than doubled my online reading speed.

When.com offers the best online calendar I have seen. In addition to the usual functions, it has an event tracking feature and email reminder system, for a wide variety of events including TV shows, movies and video releases, online chat sessions, upcoming concerts and more.

If you've ever gone to a site and wanted to download all of the .gifs and .jpgs and got tired of right clicking and saving each one individually, you will love these utilities. Download Net Vampire first, and then get the Grafula add-on.

COOL UTILITIES: Net Vampire and Grafula (Freeware)

Net Vampire 3.01 is a powerful but easy to use download manager. You can drag and drop or Alt-click links in the browser to schedule them for immediate or deferred download. The program will restart broken connections automatically and continue where it left off until it receives the whole file.

Grafula 1.1 is an add-on to Net Vampire 3.01 that allows you to download and view all images from an entire web site all at once.

With so many sites to choose from, it's hard to find one that you enjoy visiting over and over. Call me nostalgic, but this one does it for me.

Each day it features today's date in a random year. Today it was April 15, 1963, (you know how I loved the 60's) the Chiffons were singing, "He's so fine", Hitchcock's, "The Birds" was scaring everyone and Pete Rozelle (NFL commisioner) had suspended Paul Hornung and Alex Karras for betting on games.....and I was 23...(sigh)

One of our subscribers suggested I check out a typing test site for the newsletter. I was curious to know my speed.... and since I am online, all day every day, I visited the site and took the test.

The results showed that I typed at 42 WPM....and if I purchased their program, I could up it up to 60 WPM.... and seeing as I type for 5 hours a day, I could gain an additional 29 days this year. What am I going to do with all that free time?

It is invisible -- it cannot be seen or measured,
yet it is powerful enough to transform you in a
