Welcome to the 345th issue of the Cool Tricks and Trinkets Newsletter offering weekly insights into new, cool, useful, fun, unusual and interesting sites on the Internet. <Publisher's Note> As some of you may know, over the past 5 years I have been blessed in building my company A1 Discount Hotels into one of the largest affiliates of the Hotels.com family. Our commitment to customer service and simply caring for people has yielded thousands of loyal customers. In an effort to acknowledge our valued clientele, we are launching A1 Travel Club, (http://a1-travelclub.com), which will offer the lowest hotel reservation prices on the Internet. Travel Club members will receive an additional 5% rebate on all pre-paid hotel reservations. This rebate will be on top to the already low prices quoted by hotels.com. Please support us by telling your friends and associates about A1 Travel Club. With appreciation,
The Brautigan Archives Come and celebrate one of the premier literary voices of the 'Hippie Generation', Richard Brautigan. Author of such books as "Trout Fishing in America" and "Watermelon Sugar", Brautigan emerged in the 1960's as one of the founders of "New Fiction" in America. The Brautigan Archives contains a great collection of articles and works by the 60's cultural icon. Read a short biography of the writer, as well as a collection of his witty and often comical poetry. There are also great links to other websites where you can purchase Brautigans books and poems. http://www.eoiweb.com/brautigan/ William Shatner Has Been We all know him as Captain Kirk of the Enterprise, or as the spokesman for Priceline.com, and more recently as the caustic Denny Crane of "Boston Legal". In addition to a successful television and writing career William Shatner, as it turns out, is also a singer/songwriter. Coming just thirty-five years after his first solo album, "Has Been" is a collaboration between William Shatner and pop guru Ben Folds. Check out the album's website to learn more about this ironic musical duo and their new album, which includes guest muscians such as Aimee Mann, Henry Rollins and Joe Jackson. Visitors can listen to the eccentric pop songs on "Has Been", watch videos of the recording process, and learn a whole lot more about this surprisingly cool record. http://www.shatnerhasbeen.com/ The Cryptid Zoo For those of us who are unfamiliar with Cryptozoology, it is "the study of animals and creatures that have not yet been accepted by science." Not to be confused with ghost-hunting or paranormal study, cryptozoologists focus on animals and creatures that may very well exist but have not yet been proven to be more than folklore. The Cryptid Zoo website is a lot of fun, whether or not you believe in the possibility of the Yeti, the Giant Vampire Bat, the Giant Octopus and other subspecies and biological myths. The creatures are separated into three categories, Humanoid, Draconic, and Animals, as well as alphabetically for those who are searching for a specific "monster". Click on a creature and you will find a quick summary of its historical mythology as well as a list of links to related sites and articles. SHORT TAKES Apple Store of the Future This ingenious spoof site takes aim at the ever-growing popularity of the Apple product range. The site's creator has come up with a host of hilarious products such as Irule (where you can control other people's Ipod's from afar), Ibuprofen (sleek lightweight painkillers), a Steve Jobs altar and other ficticious Apple developments. http://www.davidmccandless.com/funny/applestore.htm

Anyone who has taken a cross-country road trip will attest to the fact that Americans have been known to build massive monuments to fairly ordinary objects. Larger Than Life celebrates these eccentric and extraordinarily big structures that dot the many states of our fine nation. Visitors will find photos of a giant cat, lobster, beer bottle, baseball bat, bicycle and a host of other structures that honor objects, animals and people alike. Simply click on each entry to read about its history, location and size. This is a great website if you are planning a road trip or are fascinated by Americana. http://www.ohiobarns.com/othersites/largerthanlife/ltl.html Crossovers & Spin Offs It is what happens when your favorite television show ends, or the network just decides to spice things up a bit. Welcome to an entire website dedicated to Crossovers and Spin-offs, a detailed archive of sitcom evolution that reveals the many 'realities' within the television universe. Television fans will love this site. Search alphabetically or by groups, each of the thirty-eight groups being a separate Crossover 'reality' inside the world of TV (for example "Beverly Hills 90210", "Melrose Place", "Models, Inc."). In addition to the listings, there are also cool articles on several of television's most recent spin-offs. http://www.poobala.com/crossoverlist.html Drink it Up?? Whether at home or while traveling, all of us at some stage have asked ourselves the question "Is the water here safe to drink?" This cool, educational website uses student research to answer that question for towns and cities across the country. The "Drink it Up" project is a great example of modern education, where students approach traditional lessons using new digital technology. Classrooms from schools in different parts of the US work separately and cooperatively to determine the safety and purity of their local water sources. http://www.millennium.scps.k12.fl.us/staffpages/ShawR/drinkitup/index.html
