Quantum Physics Made Relatively Simple

Get a simple introduction to Quantum Physics, which is considered by many to be science's most fascinating area of study. Just a few years ago at the ripe old age of 93, top physicist Hans Bethe delivered three lectures on the principles of Quantum Physics to a group of senior citizens at a local retirement home.

Visitors to this site can watch these legendary lectures, which provide a scientific perspective meant for 'non-experts' to understand. In addition to the QuickTime videos, the site also contains a biography of Mr. Bethe, who left Germany in the mid-1930's to escape from the Nazi regime and became one of the most influential physicists of the 20th Century.

Tracking Podcasts

With "Ipodder" you can download audio files directly from your computer into your ipod or mp3 player. Although the program is still in development, it works quite well as a way to transfer mp3 files from the Internet all the way down to your ipod.

The result of this program is "Podcasting", where everyday your ipod picks up audio "subscriptions" from the Web for you to listen to. The software allows users to subscribe to talk shows, radio stations and any other provider of online audio files, which are downloaded on a daily basis to your ipod. Very cool!

The Under the Pier Show

The Under the Pier Show is a constantly evolving arcade of coin-operated games that mix artistic ingenuity with good old-fashioned amusement. Located underneath the Southwold Pier in Suffolk, England, the machines are a modern version of the arcade and amusement culture that was so popular at the turn of the century.

For those of us who can't make it all the way to Suffolk to play the actual games, this website is the next best thing. Read about the history of this fun project, then browse through the gallery of machines to discover such modern wonders as "The Booth of Truth", "Instant Eclipse", and "Crankenstein". Most of these machines have been invented and built by Tim Hunkin, the founder of The Under the Pier Show project.

Pictures of Pennies

What the penny lacks monetarily, it makes up for in engineering capability. Check out these photos from one man's civil engineering class, which demonstrate how to build complicated structures out of mere pennies.

Drawn: Inspiration is Everywhere

Artists, illustrators, animators, cartoonists and anyone else who adores drawing will love this daily blog entitled "Drawn!". The site is regularly updated with information about emerging and popular artists from all over the world, as well as comic strips, current exhibits and illustrated books.

The blog is organized by artistic category, including everything medium from "Illustration" and "Animation" to "Typography" and "Toys". In addition to the daily feed of new inspiration, the blog has a stellar selection of links to cool art sites as well as to other blogs.

The Impulsive Buy

Check out the Impulsive Buy for self-described "quasi-reviews" on a variety of consumer products ranging from breakfast cereals to cheeseburgers. While the site's editors do actually review each product, the value in this website is more in the hilarious descriptions and bizarre tangents than in its expert opinions.

In honor of the Star Wars frenzy currently sweeping the nation, the Impulsive Buy just reviewed the new limited edition Star Wars cereal, conducting a very funny mock-interview with the all-powerful Yoda. Read through some of the other write-ups on the site, or submit a specific product for these professional impulse buyers to review for you.

SpeakWire

Speakwire is a great service for those who like to stay informed. The site works with Speegle, the talking search engine, collating newsfeeds from all around the world and automatically downloading them to your computer for you to listen to at your convenience.

Create your own personal news folder by first selecting from a range of categories (Politics, Sports, etc.) and then from a list of news sources (BBC, Reuters, USA Today, etc.). Speakwire will then automatically collect and download all related news feeds and play them for you while you work!

The Superstar Squirrel

Sugar Bush is an "international superstar" and, according to her owner, the most photographed squirrel in the entire world. Saved from certain death by owner Kelly Foxton, Sugar Bush lives in Boca Raton, Florida and is the star of her very own website.

There is much to see on this super squirrel's site, including Sugar Bush dressed up in a variety of outfits whilst posing elegantly for the camera. Visitors can admire her many staged photographs, join her fan club, or simply marvel at the fact that one squirrel can have so many different outfits.
