Ashes and Snow

The thirteen years that Gregory Colbert spent photographing elephants, whales, birds and other animals has resulted in this stunning exhibition entitled "Ashes & Snow." Colbert's traveling exhibition is part photography and part film, a beautiful exploration into the world of animals and their natural and mythological relationships to human beings.

The website is the next best thing to the actual exhibit, with a gallery of Colbert's photographs that display an unspeakably spiritual closeness between animal and man. After looking at his images, visitors will want to check out the online store where there are books and posters of the work available for sale.

Last Exit to Springfield

While this "Simpson's" tribute site is good enough to be confused with the work of the show's producers, it is actually the work of one creative Australian kid by the name of Adam Wolf. Adam, who is currently 20 years old, has been running the site by himself since the ripe old age of 12!

Die-Hard "Simpson's" fans will find loads of fun information about the show, including character biographies, articles, episode scheduling and information, as well original artwork created by the site's talented host. There are also other cool features where you can test your Simpson's knowledge such as "Cryptic Quotes", "Grabmatch", and "Lost and Found".

Bonsai: Worlds Within Worlds

Caring for a Bonsai tree takes a unique combination of excellent skill, artistry, and love for the craft. This is a great site for anyone who is interested in learning more about these beautiful trees and the art of raising, designing, and pruning them.

"Bonsai: Worlds Within Worlds" showcases the different types of Bonsai trees, as they have been designed by the top artists in the world. Scroll through the gallery to see images of extremely beautiful trees raised by top technicians, and learn about the differences between Black Pine, White Pine, Deciduous, and Juniper Bonsai.

Pictures of Pennies

What the penny lacks monetarily, it makes up for in engineering capability. Check out these photos from one man's civil engineering class, which demonstrate how to build complicated structures out of mere pennies.

The Eggcorn Database

A word's original spelling often changes over time as a result of colloquial usage, improper pronunciation, or creative license. These "semantically reanalyzed" words are called Eggcorns, a term coined by linguists who are more interested in understanding how people manipulate their own language than about correcting their grammar.

The Eggcorn website is a 'lexical database' of Eggcorns for linguists and philologists alike to enjoy. Search the archive to see what eggcorns you have picked up from the common vernacular. Well-known Eggcorns (acorns) include "hairbrained" (harebrained), "barbed" wire (bobwire) and "irregardless" (regardless).

A Sightseer's Guide to Engineering

Some of us who are not exactly mathematically inclined may occasionally overlook the importance engineers have in our society. Nearly everything we do, from traveling to showering to eating Jelly Belly's, is the result of an engineer's skill and hard work.

"The Sightseer's Guide to Engineering" is a fun, educational website sponsored by The National Society of Professional Engineers. Visitors will find a state-by-state guide to engineering sites, activities, attractions, and "creative marvels" that they can visit on their next road trip. Each of these locations, whether they are bridges or factories or amusement parks, tell their own part of a greater story about how engineers have built the society in which we live.

Museum of Retro Tech

For centuries inventors and dreamers have pushed technology beyond our wildest expectations, taking us into the air, underwater and into space. While much is heard and read about these amazing feats, less is spoken about the many inventions that didn't quite make the evolutionary cut.

The Museum of Retro Tech celebrates the many ambitious but unsuccessful inventions from the fields of Transport, Computing, Communications, and Power Generation. Browse through the old inventions and learn about such interesting machines as the Dicycle, the Propeller-Driven Sleigh, Combat Cutlery and much more.

Beans Around The World

What started with a can of black beans and a playful prank between two close friends, has grown into a small movement with a cult following and its very own website. "Beans Around The World" is a modern phenomenon that follows a free-spirited can of frijoles on its many adventures all around the world.

Only on the Internet can you find a simple can of S & W Black Beans that has traveled all across the United States, as well as on cruise ships and half-way around the world to China (there is even a photo of it by The Great Wall!). Browse through this eccentric site and find out more about this glorious can of beans, as well as how you can participate in the fun "bean" phenomenon.

Pep Bonet: Photographer

Pep Bonet's photography and passion for his work has taken him across geographical, cultural, and political borders. Bonet covers a diverse range of difficult topics including Aids and military conflict in Africa, as well as issues that hit closer to home such as life in Cuba and the work of Guide Dogs in our society.

Looking through his portfolio is a touching and painful peek into the harsh realities of the third world, especially on the African Continent in countries such as Sierra Leone, Somalia, and the Sudan. In addition to Bonet's photography there are also three short documentary films about the photographer, all of which are directed by Sergi Agusti.

How do I change?

If I feel depressed I will sing.
If I feel sad I will laugh.
If I feel ill I will double my labour.
If I feel fear I will plunge ahead.
If I feel inferior I will wear new garments.
If I feel uncertain I will raise my voice.
If I feel poverty I will think of wealth to come.
If I feel incompetent I will think of past success.
If I feel insignificant I will remember my goals.
Today I will be the master of my emotions
