Welcome to the 399th issue of the Cool Tricks and Trinkets Newsletter offering weekly insights into new, cool, useful, fun, unusual and interesting sites on the Internet.
In an effort to acknowledge our valued clientele, we recently launched A1 Travel Club, which will offer the lowest hotel reservation prices on the Internet. Travel Club members will receive an additional 5% rebate on all pre-paid hotel reservations. This rebate will be on top to the already low prices quoted by hotels.com. <Publisher's Note> Please support the newsletter by spreading the word about A1 Travel Club.
It's difficult not to get the travel bug when you come across a site like this. I almost packed up the laptop and headed off for Spain. <g> Notes from the Road is one of the best personal travel sites we have reviewed. It is a narrative supplement to the newsletter, "Travels in City and Country" and contains virtual postcards from Yosemite, Central America, the West Indies and the Iberian Peninsula. http://www.notesfromtheroad.com/index.html Periodic Table The best teachers have a special gift for putting a fresh face on the same old material. If you found chemistry dull and boring in high school, this site may change your mind. It is one of the most interesting and visually stunning sites we have ever reviewed. The Royal Society of Chemistry has created a fascinating virtual look into the Periodic Table of Elements. The site offers an original artistic interpretation of each element, information on its history, electron configuration and current uses. http://www.chemsoc.org/viselements/pages/page3.html Insects on the Web Like them or not, insects play a major role in almost every aspect of human culture. Perhaps you've experienced entomophobia (fear of insects), or enjoyed "The Flight of The Bumblebee", read "Metamorphosis", or seen "The Fly". This site offers incredible graphics and fascinating stories of insects and the roles they play in our lives. It covers cultural entomology, insect macrophotography, educational resources and links to other web sites.
If you have an old camera in your attic, and would like to know more about it, visit this fascinating site. It contains pictures of old Brownies, Kodak's, and Polaroid's along with useful information about their history and uses. http://www.merrillphoto.com/JunkStoreCameras.htm

If you can't finish that can of Coca Cola, you could use it to clean corrosion from your car battery terminals or even clean your toilet bowl. This, plus hundreds of other wacky uses for everything from Alka Seltzer to Mr. Coffee Filters can be found at this site. Enjoy the newsletter? They were made of plain white canvas, had no see through soles, no glow in the dark stitching and definitely no air pumps. Today the sneaker has become a cultural icon. Charlie's Sneaker Page includes the history of sneakers along with facts, descriptions, pictures, a glossary, and advice on how to dry wet sneakers. What it lacks in beauty, it more than makes up for in content. The Secret Garden of Mutabor What do a crying squirrel, a fish with Pac Man-shaped eyes, a bunch of snap rabbits, and a beautiful queen have in common? Enter The Secret Garden of Mutabor and you will find out. While the site is geared towards children, I was taken by the incredible graphics, clues and comments from the Garden's characters. It is easily one of most entertaining sites on the net. http://www.yenz.com/menue/garden/ **********Advertisement************** Poker T Shirts Kowboys clothing has become a favorite among poker players and celebrities. They combine hot styles with cool designs and always introduce new looks and unique washes that make their clothes fun and comfortable to wear. ********************************
Art, who needs it? How could art have any possible role in my life? These questions are examined by the folks at WNET, New York, in a fascinating new series entitled ~ egg ~. The site offers video clips, postcards and interviews from various examples of artistic expression ranging from Willie Easton's innovative Gospel music to the Cornerstone Theater Touring Company's unique approach to "community" based performances.
