Two weeks ago I mentioned that using the Windows Explorer (Win98) as a web browser seemed much faster than using Netscape, IE or even Opera. Let me know your experiences. This week's headline, "Crackers Force FBI To Shut Down" has created a good deal of interest about "cracking and hacking". A "cracker" breaks into a computer system without authorization and is usually up to mischief, while a "hacker" is a programmer, who tediously "hacks away" at the bits and bytes. The term "hacker" has become widely used for people that gain illegal entrance into a computer system. This use of the term is not appreciated by the vast majority of honest hackers. For a basic course on this fascinating subject, check out: Active Matrix's Hideaway wants to teach non-experts about computer security and hacking. Visitors will find background and updates on flaws, bugs, overflows, vulnerabilities, and other network and system problems exploited by those who might have studied the "How Can I Become a Hacker?" tutorial.
